ABOUT THE PROVIDER

Emma Duran, Psy.D., ABSNP, completed her undergraduate and graduate training at Saint John's University. She graduated summa cum laude and was part of the Psi Chi (psychology) and the Phi Eta Sigma honor societies.  Dr. Duran participated in numerous school-based internships throughout her academic career, working with children from ages 2 through 18.  In addition, Dr. Duran worked at the NYU Child Study Center and received training in various methodologies for working with children with ADHD.  She provided behavior therapy and skills training for families and children in the area of organizational skills as well as parent and teacher training in behavioral management supports.

Dr. Duran has worked in the school setting since 2009.  She began by working at a developmental preschool where she monitored behavioral needs and progress of referred students while providing behavioral consultation with teachers and staff.  She conducted psycho-educational evaluations and engaged in counseling with students, ages three through 5.  Dr. Duran then worked at a charter school in Yonkers where she was closely involved in running response to intervention meetings to determine student needs, choose interventions and monitor progress.  During this time, she also supervised special education staff.

 

Currently, Dr. Duran works for a school district within Westchester, where she continues to provide provide academic and behavioral recommendations to support student progress, conduct psychological evaluations, and engage in counseling.  Dr. Duran actively participates in and leads Committee on Special Education meetings. These varied experiences have allowed her to understand how strengths/weaknesses are reflected within the school setting as well as supports and services that would be most beneficial based on these findings.

 

In addition to her school-based work, Dr. Duran is fully immersed in the evaluation field.  For the past 11 years, Dr. Duran has conducted psycho-educational evaluations for various agencies.  In addition, she also works with early intervention, providing support for children at the earliest stages of the assessment process.  To further complement her practice and to keep up to date with the latest assessments and intellectual theory, Dr. Duran works at Saint John's University and teaches an assessment practicum for graduate students.  She completed additional school neuropsychological training and received her Diplomate in School Neuropsychology from the American Board of School Neuropsychology.  As a result of these experiences, Dr. Duran has honed her assessment and interpretation skills.
